SOUND OFF: Is BlackBerry 10 in Your Company’s Future?

BLACKBERRY Z10Yesterday was a big day for Research in Motion. First, they did away with that name and will now be known everywhere as BlackBerry. And, unless you live in a cave, you know that they launched the new BlackBerry 10 OS and two new smartphone models to run it.

In the WSJ this week, Barry Libenson, CIO at Land O’Lakes (who let me interview him on how to make the perfect pizza dough a few months ago), said that he is no longer planning on supporting BlackBerrys.

What about you? Does BB10 still have a shot in your enterprise? Why, or why not?

Simply....no. I see no reson to move awy from the perfect integration and functionality of my HTC Titan II with Windows 7.5.

In the age of BYOD, users can use whatever device they want if it integrates into our existing network with no additional software or licenses needed. If I still need BES I won't support it unless there is a business need.

We shutdown our BES last Friday. I see no need to manage infrastrucutre for people to get email, calendar etc. If people want to use Blackberry they can but it will be limited to what hey can do without connecting to a BES server.

We already moved away from RIM and retired all Blackberry devices in favor of Android and iPhone. I don't see anything in BB10 that would motivate us to recreate the environment we already threw away.

We also made the decision to move away from Blackberry devices to Android and iPhone. We are one year into the transition and our BES will be shutdown permanently in a matter of months. There's nothing compelling in BB10 to change that decision.

Blackberry had its day. But, after its recent stumbles and.failure to keep pace with other devices, we won't be returning. Our BES is dead, RIP.

We are targeting the end of May to shut down our BES. With 76% of the smartphones in our enterprise BYOD, the remaining BlackBerry devices were too costly to support. The number of BlackBerry devices in the enterprise decreased by 38% in 2012 due primarily to users moving to personally-owned devices.
